About

Painting is a journey towards discovering more about myself, the wonders of nature... and how I interact with them. The beauty of the outdoors, the excitement of the day and, conversely, the “great aloneness” of nature, if I am “ON,” will creep unbidden into my work. I am often drawn to outdoor scenes where there is only the most subtle and unobtrusive evidence of man, such as a stone path or wall or an unpainted wooden fence.

The act itself of painting is a spiritual event and I can spend hours reveling in it. Once I have decided on a scene, I sketch the composition, squint my eyes to “hone in” on color values, and begin the painting experience. Somewhere along the way I become totally immersed in the moment and everything else recedes into the background. I have on many occasions lost track of time, forgotten to eat, or even missed an appointment!

My artwork is a communication between my inner self and the outside world. My “gift of gab” shows only in my paintings, and I try to paint or sketch every day. This urge to paint has surprised me over the years; the desire to communicate has grown stronger. I am also learning to listen and paint what I “hear.” It is the best way that I can state who I am and what I love
